Karen Méndez

After 20+ years leading newsrooms, Karen Méndez is now a full time talent acquisition recruiter for the Telemundo Station Group. Before joining NBC Universal Talent Acquisitions Team, she was VP of News at Telemundo 47 in New York where she spent two years and a half. Prior to that, she was VP of News in Telemundo Dallas. During her career she has been News Director at Univision Washington, D.C. and Univision Orlando. She started her career at Teleonce (today Univision Puerto Rico) where she spent over five years in several roles as producer, senior producer and assignment desk manager. In 2001, she joined Univision New York as morning show producer where she lead the news team to win an Edward R. Murrow award for the “Tormenta del Milenio” breaking news coverage.

In 2016, Karen Méndez was recognized with a Lone Star Emmy for News Excellence and in 2017 she lead the Telemundo 47 news team to win 10 New York Emmy Awards, including best newscast in the NY-Tri State area, best breaking news coverage, best team coverage, best weather coverage and best morning news in NY, among others.

Karen holds a BA in Journalism from the University of the Sacred Heart in Puerto Rico (Magna Cum Laude) and is currently pursuing a Masters’ Degree in Theology.
